“In keeping with technological advances, the county will house a library of neatly arranged LCD screens and gadgets instead of the traditional banquet of dog-eared print and paper books. The public library will be one of the first digital-only libraries of its kind.” – NPR
What do you all think of this concept?
Sure, I use my eReader occasionally, but the idea of a “bookless library” sounds horrifying. At least to me. Maybe it’s a good concept for schools and other similar institutions, but otherwise? I’m far too attached to the physical media.
There is one comment on the article in particular that caught my attention, and that I have to agree with wholeheartedly.
“Some of us Luddites prefer the smell of paper and ink and find solace in holding a book. Most of us like technology, but a book, is a book, is a book. And next we’ll be able to smell a rose while looking at one on the computer screen. It won’t be the same experience.” – Rex Blakey
